Terms of use
Effective 13 October 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Aditya Aswani, a sole proprietor who runs Samvara (“we”, “us”), for the Samvara apps, the web app and samvara.app.
Please read the parts about money carefully. Samvara charges your card when you miss a commitment you made. That is the whole point, and it is why we ask you to agree to it plainly.
Who can use Samvara
You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher (for example 19 in some US states and Canadian provinces), and able to make a binding agreement. Samvara is available worldwide, except in the countries and regions listed as not available on samvara.app/countries; how stakes are paid depends on the country you live in, as shown there. We ask for your date of birth once to check your age and do not store it. Samvara is not medical, financial or psychological advice or treatment.
Your account
You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email; there is no password. Keep access to that email safe, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Give us true information, including your country. One account per person. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
Stakes and charges
- When you create a goal you choose a stake. Before you commit, the app tells you the amount: “If you miss, you pay $X. It goes to Samvara.”
- If you report a slip, miss a deadline, or the time to confirm a day runs out without you confirming, you are charged that stake. After a run the app proposes the next one (the ratchet): one day longer at the same stake after a clean run, the same length with the stake $1 higher after a slip. You choose to recommit, take a break or archive the goal; when a break ends the goal recommits automatically at the proposed stake, and we remind you the day before.
- When you save a card you authorise us to charge it only when you slip or miss, at irregular times and in varying amounts (the stakes you set, within your weekly charge cap). Nothing is charged when you save the card. For a deadline you are about to miss we send a notice about 24 hours before the automatic charge, and every charge appears in the app under Charges.
- Forfeited stakes are Samvara’s revenue. They are not donated, held in escrow or returned, except as described under refunds below. A stake is a charge for breaking your own commitment. It is not a bet, there is nothing to win, and it is not a purchase of Samvara Pro or of any digital content.
- Charges are processed by Stripe. If your bank declines a charge or asks for authentication, we may ask you to confirm it yourself; the amount stays owed. In some countries, after two stake charges your bank declined, future stakes are paid from Karma Coins.
- You can pause a goal between runs (1 to 90 days), and end or archive goals; ending a goal in the middle of a run can charge its stake, and the app shows the amount first.
Weekly charge cap
A weekly cap limits how much can be charged in any 7 days. It is $100 unless you change it, and you can change it at any time in Settings; the change takes effect at once. If a charge would go over the cap, the part that fits is charged now and the rest is charged automatically, oldest first, once the cap has room again, which is when earlier charges are more than 7 days old (usually the following week). Raising the cap charges waiting amounts that now fit. Amounts still waiting when you close your account are cancelled.
Mistaken charges and refunds
If you think a charge was a mistake (for example you did keep your commitment, or a bug charged you), open the charge in the app and choose “This charge was a mistake”, or email support@samvara.app. A person reviews every request and refunds charges that were made in error. Charges for slips and misses that really happened are not refunded. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law where you live. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead, the goal tied to that charge is frozen (no further charges or recommits) while the dispute is open and, if you lose the dispute, until we have reviewed it. We cannot refund a charge while it is disputed.
Karma Coins
Karma Coins are a prepayment for stakes, offered only when a stake needs them. You add them in fixed amounts ($10, $25 or $50). A stake is taken from Karma Coins first, then from your card where cards are used. They never expire and grow by 2% a year. They cannot be withdrawn or transferred while your account is open. When you close your account you choose a refund or a donation to a charity from our list: a refund goes back to your top-up payments, most recent first, and any part that cannot be refunded that way (such as growth beyond what you paid in, or a top-up reversed by a card dispute) is donated. Karma Coins are never sold as an in-app purchase and cannot be added in the Android app.
Samvara Pro
- Samvara Pro is an optional plan: $5 a month or $40 a year (or the equivalent shown in your store). Where it is offered it can be bought in the app through the App Store or Google Play, or on our website through Stripe (United States only).
- It renews automatically until you cancel. A free trial, if offered, becomes paid at its end unless you cancel before.
- Cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription in your Apple or Google account; a website subscription in Settings → Manage subscription. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
- Store purchases are refunded under Apple’s and Google’s refund rules. For website purchases, email us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund it if you have not used Pro since.
- Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription: cancel it in the store first.
- If Pro ends, your goals keep running and nothing is deleted; only Pro-only actions (more than three active goals, coach invites, custom metrics and Trends) are blocked.
Coaches
You can have one coach and share chosen goals with them. Your coach sees your email address and the goals you share. On a shared goal your coach can mark a slip, which charges your stake at once, excuse a slip, set the length and stake of the next run, edit the goal, and create new staked goals for you; shared goals are judged by your coach rather than by the timer, and you cannot end a shared goal in the middle of a run yourself. Charges your coach causes are charges under these terms. Invite only someone you trust, and only someone happy to get an invitation email. You can stop sharing or remove your coach at any time.
Using Samvara fairly
Do not break the law with Samvara, use someone else’s card or account, harass anyone through coach invitations, try to get around charges by abusing chargebacks, probe or overload our systems, or copy or resell the service. We may suspend or close an account that does, after telling you why where we safely can. The Samvara name, logo, app and website belong to us; your goals and notes belong to you, and you let us store and process them only to run Samvara for you.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings (see how deletion works). Goals in the middle of a run must be finished or ended first. Charges already made stay made. We may stop offering Samvara; if we do, we will tell you at least 30 days ahead, stop all future charges and settle Karma Coins as on account closure.
No guarantees, limits of liability
We work hard to keep Samvara accurate and available, but it is provided “as is”. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will change your habits. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (stakes, Karma Coins and Pro) or $100, whichever is more. These limits do not apply to anything the law does not let us limit, such as liability for fraud or, where it applies, your statutory consumer rights.
Law, disputes and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, USA, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections of the country or state where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where the law gives you that right. Please contact us first: most problems are solved by email. We may update these terms; we will show the new date here and tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before an important change applies to you. If you keep using Samvara after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can delete your account. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
